After King Mugalan's death, the country plunged into a state of unrest. Several kings
ruled, but only a few managed to bring the country to favourable state. Two such kings
were Agbo I and Agbo IV.
Sri Lanka was finally brought to a stable position by King Vijayabahu I. He made
a great effort to improve the agricultural sector by building several tanks.
He also constructed many Buddhist schools and temples.
This period in time showed great advances in literature. Indeed, Vijayabahu I himself
was supposed to have been a great poet and was called the "Chief of the Bards".
