King Vijayabahu I was succeeded by his son, Vikramabahu, who was not a very good king.
Following was his son, Gajabahu II.
Gajabahu II ruled for 22 years before being defeated in battle by his cousin Parakramabahu.
Parakramabahu did a lot for the betterment of the country and earned himself the title
"Parakramabahu the Great". He constructed the Thuparama Stupi, Gal Vihara and the Jethavanarama
temple. His wife built the Rankoth vihara, which was made using gold dust mixed in
white chunam.
This period in history is referred to as the "Second Golden Age".
